High Performance Chassis Dynamometer (Dyno) Lab

High Performance Chassis Dynamometer (Dyno) Lab ImageAdjacent to the Automotive Lab, the Dyno Lab has over $90,000 of major equipment which is used for vehicle component development and dynamic vehicle testing. Featured in the lab is a Mustang MD-IMP-SE Single roll, eddy current chassis dyno which allows students to test vehicles with power ratings of up to 1000 HP and speeds of up to 200 MPH. The computer controlled dyno allows a variety of tests including horsepower, curves, vehicle simulation, quarter mile sprint, and passing acceleration.

The lab also contains a SuperFlow CycleDyn motorcycle chassis dynamometer. Students use this dyno to test motorcycles of up to 500 HP at 200 MPH. Additional student modifications on this dyno now allow tests to be performed on snowmobile engines as well as motorcycles.

A closed circuit television (CCTV) system is used for instruction. The overhead monitors and portable TV camera afford better viewing of lab demonstrations and act as a data acquisition system for research projects.
