Department of Biological Sciences Scholarships - 2014-2015
|College of Science, Engineering and Technology Scholarship||At least ten awards ranging from $500 to $1000 may be given. To qualify, a student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above, have completed at least two full semesters at Minnesota State, Mankato, and be declared a major in the college or in a pre-professional major with the college. Recipients are selected by the Dean's Scholarship Review Committee.|
|Biology Department Scholarship||Up to four awards of $1000 may be given. All biology majors will be considered, including biotechnology, environmental science, food science technology, life science (teaching), medical technology, and toxicology.|
|Angie's Inspiration Scholarship||Up to two awards of $1500 to $2000 may be given. CSET faculty and staff are encouraged to recommend this award to students who meet the intent and criteria of the scholarship. This scholarship will recognize and support those students who have inspired others by achieving a solid level of success in their majors in spite of encountering barriers. Examples include (but are not limited to) non-native speakers of English, students with unexpected personal or family medical or financial problems, women engineering students, CAP students, international students with unusual, unexpected and verifiable financial issues. Eligible students:
|Biotechnology Scholarship||UP to two awards of $1000 may be given to biotechnology majors.|
|Donald E. Brinkman Biology Scholarship||One award of $1000 may be available for biology majors who have a genetics or molecular biology emphasis.|
|Jon Choe Scholarship||One award of $1000 may be given. Preference is given to biology majors who have a plant science emphasis.|
|Davisco Food Science Technology Scholarship||One award of $2500 may be given to a declared major who is majoring in food science technology. Cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 is required. First consideration will be given to applicants who have not previously received a departmental scholarship.|
|Anne and John Frey Bioscience Scholarship||The Anne and John Frey Bioscience Scholarship is intended for undergraduate students with an interest in bioscience, and with expressed thoughts in solving and understanding green solutions. Majors can include biochemitry, plant biology, toxicology, chemistry, physics, mathematics and environmental sciences. Recipients are selected by the Dean's Scholarship Review Committee.
To qualify for consideration for this award, please include a brief essay with your scholarship application outlining your interest in solving and understanding green solutions. Up to two awards of $1000 may be offered.
|Mary and Clifford Hendrickson Scholarship||Two $500 awards may be available. To qualify, a student must be a declared major in the College of SET and have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0. Recipients are selected by the Dean's Scholarship Review Committee.|
|John and Karen Knox Study Abroad Scholarship||Retired CSET dean John Knox and his wife, Karen, have established a $1000 scholarship to emphasize the importance of international study experiences. Criteria for selection include the following:
|Arnold Lund Microbiology Scholarship||One award of $1000 may be given to a student majoring in biology, with an emphasis in microbiology.|
|Babe and Chuck Pennington Botany Scholarship||One award of $1000 may be given to a biology major with an emphasis in plant science.|
|Dean and Maxine Turner Scholarship||One award of $1000 may be given. To qualify, a student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher and be enrolled in any major in the college or in a pre-professional major associated with the college. Preference will be given to students who will be seniors in the fall. Recipients are selected by the Dean's Scholarship Review Committee.|
|Turning Pointe Scholarship||One award of $1000 may be given to a single mother with dependent child(ren) who is a declared and accepted major in the College of SET with 24 credit hours completed. There is no minimum GPA requirement. Recipients are selected by the Dean's Scholarship Review Committee. A separate application is required. Details|
|WISE Scholarship (PENDING)||
Up to three scholarships of $500 may be awarded. To qualify, an applicant must be a first year female student entering their second year of a science, math, or engineering major. Student must have completed at least one semester at MSU with a GPA of 3.0 or higher in their major courses.
