MSU Mankato geologists strive to provide excellent coverage of all basic elements of geology. The staff bring broad training and experiences to their classes and research. In addition, the geologists rely on a wide array of astronomers, biologists, chemists, and geographers to support and expand our program. A list of our departmental and affiliated colleagues is provided below.
Bryce Hoppie focuses his teaching efforts on introductory geology courses and those related to environmental and engineering geology. From nutrient cycling in shallow Minnesota lakes to the formation of new crystals in the sediment below 17,000 feet of water in the South Pacific, his research strives to more fully characterize how interactions between water, rock, and life shape the world in which we live. For more information, see his personal webpage or contact him by email.
Steven Losh has teaching and research interests in mineralogy, petrology, and structural geology. He draws on a passion for teaching and extensive experiences in sponsored research to give MSU Mankato students a unique experience—individual instruction from an internationally known researcher. For more information, see his personal webpage or contact him by email.
Chad Wittkop has teaching and research interests in sedimentary geology and Earth surface processes. His research integrates techniques from sedimentology, geologic mapping, GIS (Geographic Information Systems) analysis, and geochemistry. Please see his webpage for a list of current projects.
