Welcome to the Department of Computer and Information Sciences at Minnesota State University, Mankato. If you're here, and you're interested in learning more about the theory, design, and applications of computer software, you're in the right place! Computer science is a tremendously diverse field and our graduates pursue careers as programmers, designers, consultants and researchers. To span this breadth, we offer three different Bachelor of Science degree programs: a theory-oriented Computer Science major, an application-oriented Computer Information Science major, and a business-oriented Management Information systems major. Having all three majors within a single department is unusual and offers you the opportunity to shift your emphasis if, as often happens during an undergraduate program, you discover that your interests and abilities are in a slightly different area.

Ours is also a field in which the technology changes constantly and quickly: specialized training in any particular training quickly becomes dated and obsolete. If you enjoy exploring and learning however, this is a very exciting field because you will be learning constantly throughout your career. During your time here, our faculty will work closely with you to help ensure that you not only learn the material but, more importantly, that you learn how to find, evaluate, assimilate, and apply new technologies: Those are the skills that ensure a long and successful career. And speaking of our faculty, they are the ones who teach our courses: you won't be stuck in giant classes taught by graduate students. I invite you to visit our campus and stop by our offices on the second floor of the Wissink Building, We'll be happy to visit with you, and make sure that your questions get answered.
