Undergraduate Programs

The major in Information Systems (iSYS) is designed so that about two-thirds of the major work taken by a student is in courses in information systems basics as well as topics such as information security, information warfare, software testing, and human-computer interaction. The remaining one-third of the major courses are in business enterprise concepts such as accounting, finance, business law, management, and enterprise resource planning.

The major in Computer Information Technology (CIT) is designed to provide graduates with the skills and knowledge to take on professional positions in Information Technology upon graduation and to grow into leadership positions or to pursue research or graduate studies in the field. Three areas of specialization are available:

  • Database Technologies
  • Networking and Information Security
  • Software Development


The Computer Information Science Department strives to prepare our graduates to assume positions of leadership and responsibility. We provide our students with knowledge and skills to apply the most recent technological advances. Our curriculum is designed with the following objectives in mind:

  • Provide our students with the necessary analysis and programming skills to be effective in modern CIS careers
  • Provide our students with both oral and written communication skills
  • Provide all students with "real-world" experience via an internship or a capstone experience
  • Confer regularly with business and industry representatives to better understand the needs of the marketplace and to adjust the curriculum to better serve these needs
  • Provide students with a breadth and depth of knowledge and skills to prepare them for a wide variety of key positions

Graduate Program

  • The Department of Computer Information Science offers a Master of Science degree in Information Technology, a Graduate Certificate in Database Technologies and a combined BS/MS degree program
