Computer science and information science study and promote the science and applications of automated data processing. The Computer and Information Sciences (CIS) Department at Minnesota State University, Mankato offers Bachelor of Science degrees in different majors allowing students the flexibility to pursue individual areas of interest:

  • Computer Science (CS)
  • Computer Information Science (CIS)
  • Management Information Systems (MIS)

The department also offers minors in CS, CIS, and Computer Technology (CT). The CIS graduate program curriculum supports a Master of Science in Computer Science, and the Mathematics department administers a Master of Science in Mathematics/Computer Science.

Upon graduation, our students are well prepared for a wide variety of career options. Graduates with a CS degree have a strong theoretical foundation and may secure a position as a software developer, scientific programmer, systems programmer, or software engineer. The CS major is also well-suited as preparation for advanced degrees in Computer Science. Students who graduate with the CIS degree are generally more focused on application development and may be employed as a programmer, programmer/analyst, system analyst, or database specialist. The MIS major is constructed for students wishing to specialize in business-oriented application development, and graduates may work as a system programmer and interface between the developer and others in the organization who work with accounting, production, marketing, and management-based systems.

The Computer and Information Sciences Department at Minnesota State University, Mankato is under the direction of the College of Science, Engineering, and Technology (CSET). We encourage you to explore our website or contact us for additional information.
