History of the Construction Management Program
The Construction Management (CM) Program at Mankato State University (now MN State University Mankato) was approved by the Higher Education Coordinating Commission on December 16, 1974. It was housed in the College of Business and approved as a B.S. in Business Administration with a concentration in Construction Management. The Construction Management Advisory Board was formed in 1982, under the direction of Carl Egan. The Advisory Board was active in raising funds, provided input into curriculum development, offered internship opportunities and much more.
In 1995, the CM program became Interior Design and Construction Management and moved to the College of Science, Engineering and Technology. Construction Management became a separate degree in 2004 and a separate department in 2008. There are now over 1100 graduates of the construction management program employed throughout the United States and several foreign countries. About 75%, however, are employed by Minnesota firms.
The CM Advisory Board has maintained an active role in the program and continues to provide valuable service to the university, the faculty and the students.
