CM Program Hosted Guest Speakers from Cemstone
We welcomed Lars Anderson and Ken Kuhn into our classrooms the week of February 26 to present to our students about their company. Cemstone owns and operates a network of read-mix concrete plants and aggregate facilities. They deliver and place quality concrete for everything from residential driveways to sports stadiums and high-rise buildings. Cemstone is a recognized leader in sustainable concrete technologies and the application of leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) practices.
Lars and Ken offered important insight into what they look for in their employees and what knowledges and skills are essential to being successful in the real world.
CM Program Hosted Guest Speaker, Erryn Williams
Dr. Leah Roue worked with Erryn during her sabaticcal last year at Ryan Companies in Minneapolis, MN. and recognized the value of her Diversity & Inclusion training and the benefits our students would receive by experiencing it.
Erryn gave her training in three of our courses, reaching around 100 of our majors. The feedback from students was overwhelmingly positive with the suggestion that we continue to have her back on a regular basis.
Topic: Diversity & Inclusion
This Unconscious Bias training starts the conversation about personal experiences and team culture in order to build an inclusive environment. It raises awareness of the bias, helps gain an intimate understanding of how individuals relate to each other and provides tips to making more objective decisions. The training includes time for personal reflection, small group discussions and interactive activities.
Erryn brings 15 years of experience in strategic talent acquisition to her role as Director of Human Resources at Ryan Companies in Minneapolis, MN. She specializes in creating enterprise-wide strategies for diversity, inclusion and leadership engagement and training. Her efforts at Ryan Co. focus on helping to diversify their employee base while continuing to build and cultivate an inclusive workplace. Eryn is responsible for the acquisition of diverse talent, human rights compliance, training in inclusion and unconscious bias, coaching of Ryan Co. leadership and the development of underrepresented members of their many teams. Her strengths include her collaborative approach to advancing a company-wide vision for diversity and inclusion, strategic problem solving in responding to the goals of leadership and employees, and devising innovative ways to coach, train and recruit high-quality talent.
Congratulations to CM Student, Juan Lopez!
