MSE Program:

The program options are:

A) Thesis Option -- The thesis program requires 32 credit hours of which at least three, but no more than 6 semester credit hours may be devoted to the thesis. This thesis work will conform to university guidelines.

B) Alternate Plan Paper -- This mainly coursework plan requires a total of 34 semester credit hours with 1 credit hour devoted to the preparation of an alternate plan paper. The paper will normally represent a review of state-of-the-art developments, and will conform to IEEE standards.

C) Design Option -- The design option is similar to the thesis option in that at least three, but no more than 6 semester credit hours may be devoted to the design. The difficulty of the design work will, in the judgment of the student's advisor, represent 30-45 hours of effort per credit hour awarded. The design work will be significantly advanced compared to that expected of undergraduate students. Design option students will prepare appropriate documentation of their work. (Appropriate documentation shall consist of that level of documentation that, in the opinion of their advisor, represents documentation typical of state-of-the-art industrial practice.)

In all cases, a copy of the final project (thesis, alternate plan paper, design) will be placed in the department library by the advisor.
