The Department of Integrated Engineering is the home to unique co-op based and project -based learning approaches that blend technical, professional, and design learning in the context of co-op work and industry-sponsored projects.
Twin Cities Engineering
Twin Cities Engineering graduates will be ready to tackle complex projects and solve difficult problems in the real world, because that’s exactly what they do as students.
Iron Range Engineering
The Iron Range Engineering (IRE) model is a project and co-op based-learning program in which students work closely in industry on design projects throughout their 3rd and 4th years.

The Department of Integrated Engineering at Minnesota State University, Mankato, home to Iron Range Engineering, Twin Cities Engineering, and the IRE program, has long had a student graduation outcome of "An ability to work successfully in an inclusive environment." For us as faculty and staff, our students, and our graduates, this means not just working in an inclusive environment, but working to create that environment for all to work in. We believe in doing the work of continuous improvement, beyond what is required for program accreditation. At a base level, this means that we know we have to continue to build the skills to listen, to engage, to recognize our own failures, and to actively improve, not just as engineers, but as citizens and community members. This is embedded in our curriculum, in our department processes, and in our individual values. As such, we affirm that #blacklivesmatter and commit to the work to make this evident in our classes, our programs, our department, our university, and our home and work communities.
