The growing audience of database users requires education in the appropriate utilization of database concepts, database software (DBMS) and software development using state-of-the-art database technologies. This certificate program is designed for professionals who have expertise in functional areas such as; accounting, finance, education, management, retail, law, manufacturing, medicine, agriculture or government and who have minimal database experience as well as Computer Science students that wish to acquire a stronger background in database technologies.

The Graduate Certificate in Database Technologies provides students with advanced knowledge to apply information technology principles and theory so they are able to address real world business and organizational challenges and opportunities. This certificate focuses on current topics and issues in the database field through analysis and practice. Students are introduced to the theory, algorithms, and methods that underlie distributed database management systems.

Students may use the credits earned in this certificate program if they plan to continue for their Masters program in Information Technology.

Admission Requirements for the Graduate Certificate Program

  • Admission to MSU’s College of Graduate Studies
  • Degree/professional experience
    • Minimum of two years of software development experience with a bachelor's degree or equivalent
    • OR Minimum of four years of software development experience without a bachelor's degree or equivalent
    • OR Bachelor's degree or equivalent in CS, CIS, MIS or equivalent

Students without a bachelor's degree may NOT continue in the MS degree program

  • Official transcripts bearing an institutional seal sent directly to the Graduate Programs coordinator
  • Completed application form
  • Detailed resume
  • For applicants whose native language is not English, a TOEFL score is required.
  • Brief essay listing courses the student wishes to take and their reasons
