Students News

Four graduate students, Zhenhan Fang, Maggie Kelly, Zhuoning Li, and Shuk Ping Wong, won the first place in the Datagon-Graduate Level portion of the Data Derby 2019 hosted by the Minnesota State IT Center. Their advisor is Dr. Iresha Premarathna.
They have worked together to build three models, use the models to predict a patients BMI, as well as incidence of MI and stroke, and finally rank the factors of most importance to each model. They have used tableau to construct graphs to visualize data and SAS to build models and perform factor analysis on the variables.

The Minnesota State IT Center hosts students and faculty at Data Derby 2019 a multi-disciplinary competition open to all Minnesota higher ed institutions, that allows student teams to compete and present data-driven answers to defined problems and societal issues. Student teams gain access to the Datagon same-day challenge on the morning of the Data Derby and are provided the datasets they may use. Teams work in isolation for two and a half hours to address the challenge and post their submissions to an online portal. The team submissions are judged and winners announced at the end of the Data Derby.

Congratulations!
