Scholarships

Several scholarships are available for qualified Civil Engineering students. Scholarships come from many different sources, including the College of Science, Engineering, and Technology; professional organizations, and private companies and individual donors. The Civil Engineering faculty members encourage and support students applying for scholarships.

Minnesota State University, Mankato
Minnesota State University, Mankato offers several merit scholarships which are available to students across the university. Each award maintains unique eligibility criteria, application procedures, application deadlines. Please visit the Office of Financial Aid for additional information.

Privately Funded Scholarships
Martin C. Menk, Jr. Scholarship
The Martin C. Menk, Jr. Scholarship was established in 2003 by Mr. and Mrs. Jon Rippke in honor of Martin Menk, the founder of Bolton & Menk, Inc. in Mankato. Mr. Rippke served as President and CEO of Bolton & Menk, Inc. from 1995 to 2012, and was the founding chairman of the Civil Engineering Industrial Advisory Board at MSU. This scholarship is provided to current MSU Civil Engineering students, and is based on scholastic achievement. To qualify, a student must have junior status and be admitted to the Civil Engineering program when the scholarship is awarded. Students must submit the application to the College using the CSET scholarship application form and the Civil Engineering supplementary form available in early spring semester of each year.

Minnesota Surveyors and Engineers Society
The Minnesota Surveyors and Engineers Society provides scholarships to Minnesota residents pursuing college degrees in civil engineering. The scholarship committee interviews students each spring and awards scholarships for the following school year. To be considered for a scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:
  • Resident of Minnesota.
  • College student with junior or senior–level status during the award year.
  • Demonstrated career interest in transportation.
  • Demonstrated financial need.
  • Demonstrated high academic performance.

Minnesota County Engineers Association
The Minnesota County Engineers Association provides scholarship programs for several universities offering accredited civil engineering programs. To be considered for the scholarship available for MSU, students must meet the following criteria:
  • Resident of Minnesota.
  • Accepted into the Civil Engineering Program at MSU.
  • Full–time student for two semesters during the academic school year.
  • College student with sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student status at the time of scholarship award.

Minnesota Public Works Association
The Minnesota Public Works Association provides scholarships to financially assist students in civil engineering programs. Preference will be given to MPWA members or their spouse or dependent. To be considered for a scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:
  • Resident of Minnesota.
  • College student with junior–level status or above.
  • Civil engineering major.
  • Demonstrated financial need, academic achievement, character, participation in professional organizations, and related work experience.

Traverse Des Sioux Chapter of Minnesota Society of Professional Engineers
The Traverse Des Sioux Chapter of Minnesota Society of Professional Engineers offers scholarships to students pursuing college degrees in engineering. To be considered for a scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:
  • Full–time student with junior status at university level during the award year.
  • Enrolled in a university engineering program.
  • Permanent address in one of the Traverse Des Sioux area counties: Blue Earth, Brown, Cottonwood, Faribault, Freeborn, Jackson, LeSueur, Martin, McLeod, Nicollet, Nobles, Rice, Rock, Sibley, Steele, Waseca, Watonwan.

City Engineers Association of Minnesota
This fund is established to support undergraduate scholarships in Civil Engineering. To be considered for the scholarship, a student must meet the following criteria:
  • Resident of Minnesota.
  • Completed or have plans of completing 64 credits of undergraduate study by the time of their application (sophomore status).
  • Accepted into the College of Science, Engineering, and Technology.
  • Declared Civil Engineering as his/her major.

Precast Concrete Institute Scholarship

Jack and Ann Getta Memorial Scholarship
Two awards of $500 are given annually. To qualify, a student must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0, have completed 64 credits (sophomore entering junior year), have a declared major in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering Technology or Civil Engineering, have officially been accepted to the College of SET, and be a Minnesota resident. Recipients are selected by Dean's Scholarship Review Committee.

NorAm/Minnegasco Scholarship
Five awards of $1,500 will be given. To qualify, students must be enrolled full–time in science, science teaching, engineering, or technology majors. Applicants must be permanent residents of Minnesota (preference will be given to those from the Waseca area and south–central Minnesota). Applicants must be juniors, admitted to the college/major and enrolled in upper level courses. Recipients are selected by Dean's Scholarship Review Committee.

Maxine and Dean Turner Scholarship One award of $500 will be given. To qualify, a student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above and be enrolled in any major in the college or in a pre–professional major associated with the college. Preference will be given to students who will be seniors by Fall 2004. Recipients are selected by Dean's Scholarship Review Committee.

Mankato Builder's Exchange
Awards of $750 each are available to Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering and Electrical Engineering majors. A supplemental application is required.
