The Civil Engineering Program at Minnesota State University Mankato has established an excellent relationship with District 7 of the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT), and especially with the District Materials Engineer and the laboratory technicians. The District 7 lab has been used as an educational laboratory experience for MSU students. An annual series of laboratory experiences has been established where students spend several afternoons at the District 7 lab to learn and conduct tests of hot-mix asphalt, aggregates, and asphalt cements. The MnDOT District 7 lab is AMRL certified, and the technicians teach not only MSU students, but also hold training courses for technicians and engineers throughout the year.
