In the interest of making engineers fully aware of their social responsibilities and better able to consider related factors in the decision-making process, course work in the humanities and social sciences is required as an integral part of our civil engineering program. To satisfy this requirement, the courses selected must provide both breadth and depth, as described below. Only a select number of non-skill building courses in the humanities and social sciences are acceptable. Courses may be chosen to satisfy the university cultural diversity requirements simultaneously with the program H/SS requirements. Each student should discuss the selection of courses to meet this requirement with his/her civil engineering advisor early in their academic career.
