Dr. Karen C. Chou, P.E.Dr. Karen C. Chou joined the Civil Engineering Faculty at MSU in 2001. Dr. Chou received her BSCE with dual majors in civil engineering and mathematics from Tufts University; her MS and PhD in structural engineering from Northwestern University. Dr. Chou is a registered professional engineer in Minnesota, New York, and Tennessee. Her other professional experience includes: Summer Faculty Research Fellow at Wright Patterson AFB, Tyndall AFB and Navy Air Station; structural engineer at Montgomery Harza Engineering Co. and Stopen Engineering Partnership. She has also served as consultant to both structural and environmental engineering consulting firms as well as research institutes.
Dr. Chou is very active in the professional societies. A Fellow of ASCE, she served at various capacities in the Syracuse Section ASCE during the 1980s including Section President and Chair of New York State Council. She was an officer of Knoxville Branch ASCE and District 9 delegate prior to moving to Mankato. She was faculty advisor for the ASCE student chapter at Syracuse University and at the University of Tennesse. She received a Certificate of Commendation from ASCE National in 1999 for her outstanding service as faculty advisor. Currently, Dr. Chou serves as ABET program evaluator on behalf of ASCE. She also serves on technical committees, engineering advisory board, journal editorial board, and transporation project review panel.
