Welcome to the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Minnesota State University, Mankato.
Our department provides general education courses for all students in the university, offers a variety of specialized courses for the majors and minors, provides research opportunities for both undergraduate and graduate students, advises students about careers in science, technology, and education, and prepares students for graduate study in physics, astronomy, engineering and related sciences.
The department offers programs leading to bachelor's degrees in Physics and Physics Teaching; minors in Astronomy and Physics; and master's degrees in Physics, Physics Education, and Physics Teaching for the Community College. Currently there are about fifty undergraduate and graduate students majoring in our programs. The faculty in our department pride themselves on the amount of individual attention they provide our students.
Besides providing an excellent education for undergraduate physics and astronomy students, the department encourages and engages in outreach activities such as speakers exchange with colleges in surrounding areas, public evenings, tours, and student viewing sessions at the campus observatories, physics and astronomy summer camps and physics demonstrations for K-12 students.
Our department has a great deal to offer. Please come and visit us.
