In addition to meeting the general admission requirements of the College of Graduate Studies and Research, applicants must have an undergraduate degree in physics or a related field from a regionally accredited college or university. Students who do not hold an undergraduate degree in physics should at least have an undergraduate physics minor. Students who do not have a B.S. degree in physics may be required to take additional coursework.
Minimum GPA requirement for admission is 2.75.
The general GRE is recommended. The score may be considered as a reference for admission. No minimum scores are set.
For international students, a minimum TOEFL score of 530 (PBT) or 72 (iBT) is required for admission.
Applicants should also submit the following to the department graduate coordinator:
- A one-page personal statement of career interests and goals.
- Two letters of recommendation from professors in colleges where the applicant did undergraduate study.
The College of Graduate Studies and Research will forward the applicant's file to the Department of Physics and Astronomy for admission recommendation. Admissions are made each semester and all application materials must be received by the deadline for the semester applied.
