Observatory Tour and Public Viewing



Andreas Observatory will be open regularly to the public during the fall observing season.

Andreas Observatory 2006

Visitors to Andreas Observatory may hear a talk, tour the building, inspect the observing equipment, and view images stored on the observatory computers. And if the night is sufficiently clear, they will have a chance to look through one of the largest telescopes in Minnesota.

Fall Dates and Times

  • Andreas Observatory will be open to the public on selected Friday evenings during the fall.
  • These events will be held only if skies are sufficiently clear.
  • Anticipated dates and times for Fall 2009:
    • Friday, September 18, 8:30 to 10:30 pm
    • Friday, September 25, 8:30 to 10:30 pm
    • Friday, October 16, 8:30 to 10:30 pm
    • Friday, November 20, 8:30 to 10:30 pm

Visitors should park at the south end of Lot 1 and WALK to the observatory – a distance of about 600 yards.

If the skies are not sufficiently clear at the scheduled viewing time each evening, the observatory will not be open.

Sky Conditions at Andreas Observatory

A SIGN on the GATE at the SOUTH END of Lot 1 (see map) will indicate whether Andreas Observatory is OPEN to the public.
