Special Application Instructions - Standeford Astronomy Scholarship for Astronomy Majors and Minors

College of Science, Engineering and Technology Scholarship At least ten awards ranging from $500 to $1000 can be given. To qualify, a student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above, have completed at least two full semesters at Minnesota State, Mankato, and be declared a major in the college or in a pre-professional major with the college. Recipients are selected by the Dean's Scholarship Review Committee.
Angie's Inspiration Scholarship Up to two awards of $1500 to $2000 may be given. CSET faculty and staff are encouraged to recommend this award to students who meet the intent and criteria of the scholarship. This scholarship will recognize and support those students who have inspired others by achieving a solid level of success in their majors in spite of encountering barriers. Examples include (but are not limited to) non-native speakers of English, students with unexpected personal or family medical or financial problems, women engineering students, CAP students, international students with unusual, unexpected and verifiable financial issues. Eligible students:
  • Must maintain an overall and major GPA of 2.7 or higher
  • Must be in junior status and entering senior status as full time students
  • Must be enrolled in a CSET major
Dr. Glenn and Mrs. Helen Erikson Physics Scholarship At least one award of $1200 or more may be given. To qualify, a student must be a declared major in physics or physics teaching. Preference will be given to students planning to teach high school or college physics, junior high physical science or elementary science with a physical science emphasis. Both undergraduate and graduate students are eligible for this scholarship.
Anne and John Frey Bioscience Scholarship The Anne and John Frey Bioscience Scholarship is intended for undergraduate students with an interest in bioscience, and with expressed thoughts in solving and understanding green solutions. Majors can include biochemitry, plant biology, toxicology, chemistry, physics, mathematics and environmental sciences. Recipients are selected by the Dean's Scholarship Review Committee.

To qualify for consideration for this award, please include a brief essay with your scholarship application outlining your interest in solving and understanding green solutions. Up to two awards of $1000 may be offered.
Mary and Clifford Hendrickson Scholarship Two $1000 awards may be available. To qualify, a student must be a declared major in the College of SET and have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0. Recipients are selected by the dean's scholarship review committee.
John and Karen Knox Study Abroad Scholarship Retired CSET dean John Knox and his wife, Karen, have established a $1000 scholarship to emphasize the importance of international study experiences. Criteria for selection include the following:
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Must be enrolled in a CSET major while studying abroad, preferably in a country whose first language IS NOT English
  • Must be a full time student admitted to the CSET major of their choice.
  • Must be at least in junior status at the time of the study abroad experience
  • Upon return from the study abroad experience, must meet with donors to share their experience.
  • Must complete a supplemental application that includes a 200-word essay.
Robert and Marsha Qualset Physics Scholarship Up to two awards of $2500 may be given to two undergraduate students majoring in Physics or Physics Science Teaching at MSU, M who meet the following criteria:
  • Must have officially applied for and been accepted in the College of Science, Engineering and Technology
  • Must have officially declared Physics or Physics Science Teaching as a major
  • Must have an excellent academic record
  • Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Must have completed PHYS 221 (General Physics I) with a grade of "C" or better
Leo V. Standeford Astronomy Scholarship One award of at least $500 may be given. Award will be distributed fall term. To qualify, a student must have a declared major or minor in astronomy, a cumulative GPA of at least 3.3, and a GPA of at least 3.4 in Minnesota State, Mankato astronomy courses. Completion of at least six Minnesota State, Mankato semester credits in astronomy coursework numbered 200 or above is required.
Thin Film Technology/Mankato Area Foundation Scholarship One award of $2000 may be given to a senior with a GPA of 3.5 or higher. Two awards of $1000 may be given to a senior with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Four awards of $500 may be given to a junior with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Candidates must be a declared major in either computer engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, automotive engineering technology, computer engineering technology, electronic engineering technology, manufacturing engineering technology, chemistry, mathematics or physics. Recipients are selected by the Dean's Scholarship Review Committee.
Dean and Maxine Turner Scholarship One award of $1000 may be given. To qualify, a student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher and be enrolled in any major in the college or in a pre-professional major associated with the college. Preference will be given to students who will be seniors in the fall. Recipients are selected by the Dean's Scholarship Review Committee.
Turning Pointe Scholarship One award of $1000 may be given to a single mother with dependent child(ren) who is a declared and accepted major in the College of SET with 24 credit hours completed. There is no minimum GPA requirement. Recipients are selected by the Dean's Scholarship Review Committee. A separate application is required. Details
WISE Scholarship (PENDING)

Up to three scholarships of $500 may be awarded. To qualify, an applicant must be a first year female student entering their second year of a science, math, or engineering major. Student must have completed at least one semester at MSU with a GPA of 3.0 or higher in their major courses.

G. M. Wissink Physics Scholarship One award of $1000 or more may be given. To qualify, a student must be a junior or senior majoring in physics or physics teaching. A cumulative GPA of 3.5 in physical sciences and mathematics is required.
