Capstone

The required experiential component of Engineering Management degree is a capstone experience completed with an off-campus business, industry, government agency, or non-profit that is directly related to the student's PSM coursework background and interests. The capstone experience should focus on real, solvable problems that have not been able to be addressed by the organization due to funding or time constraints.

The experience is intended to place the student in a real world work situation requiring them to work in a team environment to solve a technical problem.  The “team” is not intended to be a group of students, but a team made up of the student and professionals at the off-campus site. By having the students work in a team environment they will be attempting to solve problems by using teamwork and communication skills covered in the coursework.  The capstone replaces the master's thesis requirement as the culminating part of the PSM graduate program, integrating what students have learned in the classroom with their ability to function appropriately in a professional environment.
