Internship Information
Information for Employers
Students majoring in either Electronic Engineering Technology (EET) or Computer Engineering Technology (CET) must complete 320 hours of related work experience to satisfy their internship requirement. We, the faculty, believe strongly that a work experience is important to the subsequent success of our EET/CET graduates. The internship requirement is normally fulfilled after the student has completed courses at the junior year level, but this can vary depending upon:
- The student’s experience prior to or while attending classes
- The maturity of the student.
- The nature of the work to be done
- Agreement of the employer
- Agreement of the internship coordinator
A related work experience requires that the student make use of the information and skills learned in courses and cannot be simply working in a production/assembly job.
- For EET majors there must be significant experience with hardware.
- For CET majors there must be some hardware experience.
- It is hoped that the company providing the internship experience for the student will designate an appropriate person to serve as a mentor. In many cases the supervisor would be the most likely candidate. The mentor would be someone the student could go to if questions arise or help if needed.
- Before the internship is approved the employer must fill out and submit Form B. This is required before the student is allowed to register for the course.
- At the end of the internship the employer must fill out and submit Form C. We read carefully the comments in Form C to ensure that our internship program is working for the mutual benefit of both the students and employers. Certainly the internship allows both employers and potential employees an extended opportunity to evaluate each other.
