The Mankato-area community is invited to a free outdoor showing of the 2014 science fiction/adventure film, “Interstellar” (PG-13), and to view planets, stars, and the Milky Way through observatory telescopes on Saturday, Sept. 9 from 9 p.m. to midnight at Minnesota State University, Mankato’s Andreas Observatory.

Free parking is available in Lot 1 (click here for map). Andreas Observatory is located on the southern edge of Minnesota State Mankato’s campus, approximately 550 yards beyond the Lot 1 gate and about 150 yards east of Standeford Observatory. (Visitors with special needs should contact the University’s Office of Accessibility Resources at 507-389-2825.)

Throughout the movie showing, there will be trivia, educational talks and an example of the mathematics used in the movie. Light refreshments will be available, including star-shaped cookies and candy bars. The public is encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs to watch the outdoor movie, as no seating is available.

The event is sponsored by the University’s Student Events Team and the University’s Department of Physics and Astronomy.
