November 03, 2020 |

The campus selection committee has nominated Aaron Stokke’s thesis to represent Minnesota State University, Mankato in the 2021 Midwestern Association of Graduate Schools (MAGS) Distinguished Thesis Award competition. Aaron’s thesis is titled, “Compositional and Topographical Characterization of Carbonaceous Chondritic meteorites Moss and Murray using micro-Raman Spectroscopy and SEM/EDS.” It explores how objects can provide information about planet formation through their physical properties (such as structure, composition, and morphology) which can be characterized using microscopy and spectroscopy techniques. Professor Analía “Yanil” Dall’Asén, Department of Physics and Astronomy, served as the thesis advisor.

Should Aaron’s thesis receive the MAGS award, he will receive a $750 honorarium and be invited to present his paper at the MAGS Spring 2021 meeting in Chicago, Illinois.
