May 04, 2020 |

At this year's URC Undergraduate Research symposium the Physics and Astronomy Department was well-represented: Five posters were submitted with contributions by more than seven current or former students in the department, and presented alongside the efforts of more than ~1000 students from across the University.

The Department extends its congratulations to two students in the major who were recognized with "Outstanding Student Presentation" honors: Junior Tyler Hagen and Senior Jamal Saeed.  These two students were amongst 40 other students recognized across the university.

Tyler Hagen's research investigated the presence of recent star formation in quiescent, compact, massive galaxies in the CANDELS fields using the Hubble Space Telescope. Jamal Saeed's research investigated the escape of Lyman-continuum radiation from hig redshift star-forming galaxies CANDELS fields using the Hubble Space Telescope. Those interested in learning more about his research can download a PDF of his winning presentation by clicking the image below.
