Bio

Katie Scherf is a Facilitator at Iron Range Engineering (IRE), a work-based engineering education program located in northern Minnesota. In her role, she works closely with students to support their professional development and career success, with a particular focus on securing internships and co-op opportunities. She builds and maintains connections with industry partners, coordinates career fairs, and helps students develop the skills and professional relationships needed to transition successfully into the engineering workforce.

Katie is also actively involved in recruiting and outreach for the Iron Range Engineering program. She is passionate about promoting STEM education and encouraging students of all ages to explore opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Her outreach efforts include organizing high school career and STEM expos, female-focused STEM events, and hands-on STEM showcases for elementary-aged students.

Her research interests include social network analysis and organizational network analysis, with a particular interest in understanding relationships and interactions within organizations and educational environments.

Outside of work, Katie enjoys spending time outdoors and taking advantage of Minnesota’s changing seasons. Her favorite activities include hiking, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, ice skating, curling, and fishing. Year-round, she also enjoys traveling, reading, and spending time with family and friends.
