The Department of Biochemistry, Chemistry, and Geology is designed to meet the learning and career needs of our students. Geologists are at the forefront of pressing environmental and resource issues. Chemists investigate the properties of substances and have profound effects on our everyday lives. Biochemists study the chemical principles of living systems and of biological processes.
Biochemistry is a discipline encompassing both biology and chemistry focusing on the study of the molecular aspects of living organisms. The tools and concepts of biochemistry are a foundation to careers in many areas of medicine and research.
Students graduating with a BS in chemistry have numerous career options available to them. Our alumni work as chemists in many small companies throughout the region as well as in Fortune 500 companies and municipality/government positions.
Geology is the study of the Earth, its materials, and its processes. It concerns itself with solving basic scientific problems and utilizing knowledge of the Earth for the benefit of society.
