The Department of Physics and Astronomy provides excellent training in physics to our undergraduate and graduate majors, contributes to the general education of students from across the university, provides high quality teaching, promotes research activities by faculty and students, and promotes physics and astronomy among the general public.
Physics is a science concerned with understanding the fundamental laws of nature. It explains physical phenomena in everyday life, such as motion, heat, electricity, magnetism and light.
The astronomy program serves the needs of a wide range of students, from those with only a casual interest in the subject to those students planning careers in the field.
Throughout the semester, the Physics and Astronomy department faculty, staff, and students sponsors a variety of events for the community beyond campus.
